Requirements for Activities outside of Club Training
It is very important to tell your coach at Bulimba Judo Club if you want to participate in Judo activities outside of club training. This is so we can pass on important information and also to ensure you are ready to participate in the planned activity.
Training at other clubs
Training at other clubs is a great idea but always let your coach know. Individuals have different needs and goals from Judo. Some like intense competition and strive for Olympic success and others just like the exercise, social atmosphere and want to learn some self-defence skills. Judo caters for all needs and some clubs have a different emphasis to others. Your coach knows the other coaches and knows which clubs would be best for you to get some extra training.
Competitions
Always tell your coach when you intend to compete. If it is your first competition you need to know what to expect, what to bring, what to wear and how to prepare. If you have an injury you may not be the best person to make the decision on whether you should compete.
Different levels of competition have different requirements but your coach will know what they are. For example all competitions require a white judogi and some also require a blue judogi. You can’t just bring a blue judogi, if you only have one it must be white. Females are required to wear a white t-shirt under the judogi. At training it can be any colour, at competition it must be white. Males are not allowed to
wear shirts under the judogi. At training you can wear a rashy or t-shirt if you want but not at competitions.
Local Competitions
What you need:
- White judogi
- White T-shirt (females only)
- Judo QLD membership card (you must be a member to compete)
- Water bottle
- Thongs
Some competitions must be entered online. Some can be entered on the day but will attract a higher entry fee. Read the flyer carefully.
State Titles
As above but you will need 2 judogis – one white and one blue.
QIO (QLD International Open)
This is a higher-level competition that attracts entrants from many countries. Judogis are checked before every bout to ensure they comply to International rules. You must get your coach’s permission to compete and get your judogis checked for legality. They can’t be torn or frayed. Sleeves and pants have strict limits and belts can’t be too long.
National Titles
Competing at the National Titles is by selection for everyone except Veterans. Selection is made from success at local competitions and attendance at State training sessions on weekends. If you want to compete at the Nationals it is very important that you let your coach know.
The Nationals are held in June and you need to have attended State training since the beginning of the year. You need approval from your coach to attend State training.
Your coach at Bulimba is here to help you achieve your Judo goals.
Talk to your coach about your short, medium and long-term aspirations. Training can be tailored to help you achieve your goals and get the best for you personally.
