As a member of our club, to ensure the enjoyment and safety for all, the following rules are in place:
- Respect for others, by being on time for classes.
- Assist in the setting up and taking down of the mats as necessary, under the direction of senior Jukoka.
- During the lesson, students must not leave the Tatami (mat) unless the instructor gives permission.
- Judoka leaving or entering the mat must bow at the edge of the mat as a show of respect.
- Noise must be kept to a minimum.
- Respect must be shown to all higher ranks.
- Shoes must be worn when Judoka are off the mat.
- All jewellery (watches, rings, earrings, etc) must be removed before the class.
- Always have short fingernails and toenails.
- Long hair must be tied back.
- Judoka must always wear a clean Judogi (suit).
- Judoka must not use their Judo techniques inappropriately outside the Dojo.
- Any visitors and new members to the club must be treated as guests and introduced to the Sensei of the class.
- A friendly reminder – If you are injured, please let Sensei know before class. If you are injured during class, please report to Sensei immediately.
Dojo Hygiene
- Always have a clean body
- Always have a clean Judogi
- Always have short fingernails and toenails
- Tatami must always be clean
- Dojo must always be clean
- Long hair must be tied back
Dojo Etiquette
- Always bow to your partner (has same meaning as a handshake)
- Always listen to your Sensei
- Always obey your senior members
- Always ask permission to leave the Tatami
- Do not disrupt the class (e.g.: talking)
- Judoka must bow when entering or leaving the mat
There are two ways of sitting on the mat:
- On your knees
- Cross legged
Report all injuries
- If you are injured when you come to Judo, please let Sensei know before class begins
- If you are injured during class, please advise Sensei immediately.
Rules of Grading
- Judoka can achieve a Yellow belt without entering a competition.
- After Yellow belt, Judoka aged up to 30 years old must enter a competition to gain further belts; for those Judoka over 30 years it is optional to enter a competition.
AGE GROUPS (Minimum age is turning 5 this year)
Mons(stars) – turning 5-8 this year
Junior Boys/Girls – turning 9-11 this year
Senior Boys/Girls – turning 12-14 this year
Cadets – turning 15-17 this year
Junior Men/Women – turning 18-20 this year
Senior Men/Women – turning 21-29 this year
Veterans/Masters – turning 30 or older this year
